As the summer of protests and national unrest continue, the leadership of UNIS has humbly listened to students, alumni, teachers and parents. Any expressions of racism are unacceptable. Even more, at UNIS we should not just be content to prohibit offensive behavior; we should be the advocates for anti-racism and all ideals embedded in the UN Charter, including the dignity and worth of every human being. To date, we are creating student affinity groups, revising the student code of conduct and beginning the review of our curriculum. We are also diversifying our staff at all levels of our school community, including the hiring a director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion before the start of the school year. We know we have more to do, and we are committed to the necessary hard work. At UNIS, we intend to set an example of what an integrated, all-inclusive, multiracial democracy can look like.
